From Mourning to Dawn – grief ministry for bereaved spouses (widows and widowers)

From Mourning to Dawn, the diocesan grief support group for widows and widowers begins the winter 2020 session on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Facilitators, who have themselves also experienced the death of a marriage partner, engage with participants on an 8-week journey of transformation and healing, offering support and encouragement for bereaved spouses. This program is open to participants who have been widows/widowers between 2 months and 2 years. Sessions are held at the Catholic Pastoral Centre in the Cathedral of the Holy Family (123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon) on 8 consecutive Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 7 and ending Feb. 25, 2020 held each Tuesday, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Cost of this program is $35. In this way the Church fulfills the Lord’s precept to pray without ceasing, at once offering its praise to God the Father and interceding for the salvation of the world.”  — Office of the Sacred Congregation for Divine Worship.

Every Saturday from September to June, an opportunity to chant the Divine Office will be offered at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul Co-Cathedral, 720 Spadina Crescent East, Saskatoon. (Note: This follows a Learn Divine Office session held at 9:00 a.m. every Saturday). All are welcome, booklets will be provided, arrive at side door facing 22nd Street. For more information, please contact Hudson at 306-220-7236.

On the first Friday of each month from September until June, there will be Gregorian Chant Night Prayer beginning at 9:00 p.m., as one of the following first Friday events at St. Paul Co-Cathedral, 720 Spadina Cres. E., Saskatoon:

  • 6:30 p.m. – Gregorian Chant Evening Prayer
  • 7:00-8:30 p.m. – Gregorian Chant Mass
  • 9:00 p.m. – Gregorian Chant Night Prayer

Contemplative Mass at St. Augustine, Saskatoon

Contemplative Mass led by Fr. Kevin McGee will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3 at St. Augustine Church, 602 Boychuk Dr., Saskatoon.

The rhythm of the Contemplative Mass is a gentle, steady flow, marked by 20 minutes of silence after communion. It is designated to allow space for reflection and recognition of the intimate presence of Christ who comes to us through scripture and the Eucharist. Silence with in this form of worship can feel uncomfortable or awkward, especially when experienced for the first time. We encourage you to relax and rest in the abiding presence of God.

Gregorian Chant Mass and First Friday Devotion

Reverence, silence, and beauty. This special Mass at St. Paul’s Co-Cathedral on the first Friday of the Month will be accompanied by Sacred Music (Gregorian Chant and Polyphony). Confessions and Chanted Evening prayer are at 6:30, Mass is at 7-8:15pm, followed by social time, followed by chanted Night Prayer at 9pm.

Also, booklets will be provided for the Mass and also for Night Prayer.
